In the latest instalment of our Meet the Team series, we are finding out more about one of our longest-standing members of staff, review coordinator, Kerstie Mehmel.
Kerstie is the one many of you will have the pleasure of dealing with when you submit products for review. Over to her…
Over to Kerstie…
1 – Could you tell us a bit about your background before you joined Fundamentally Children?
I had never worked in the toy industry before, my background was more art and fashion. I studied fashion at university and worked in that industry for a few years until I started my family. Before I joined Fundamentally Children, I was a full-time mum looking to get back to work and it was the perfect fit. I have now worked with Amanda for eight years.
2 – Could you tell us a bit about your current role?
My role at Fundamentally Children is review coordinator. I ensure that all products submitted for evaluation are dealt with effectively, liaising with clients during the testing process. I also manage our database of testers, both play centres and parents, collating their review data to add product reviews to the website.
3 – What’s the best thing about working in the children’s industries?
The best thing about working in the children’s industry is that it has helped me understand the importance of play and that you’re never too old to play (I often embarrass my teenagers!) I also think it has helped me a parent to maybe look at things in a different way.
4 – Describe working for Fundamentally Children in three words.
Three words to describe working for Fundamentally Children are flexible, fun and friendly.
5 – What’s your favourite industry event and why?
My favourite event has to be Toy Fair at Olympia. It has a real buzz about it and a lovely atmosphere. I love visiting the Greenhouse, seeing new toys that are coming out and getting a sneaky picture with a character (for my daughters of course.)
6 – If you didn’t work in your current role, what would you like to be doing and why?
If I wasn’t working with Fundamentally Children, I would like to be an interior designer or something arty.
7 – What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given from someone in the children’s industries?
You’re never too old to play.
7 – What’s your all-time favourite children’s toy or app?
My all-time favourite toy is Lego and Sylvanian Families.
